A Message from Dean Hart

Ed Hart

Welcome to the Law Library. It’s both a physical and virtual space, designed to help prepare you to practice law in the real world. Our goal is to provide a place where you feel welcome and able to collaborate with your classmates, as well as avail yourself of the resources and services we provide.

Legal information literacy is one of the key skills you will need to be an effective lawyer. In whatever area you end up practicing, you’ll need to know how to find the best law on point, how to understand that law and how to apply it. All these require a foundation of understanding how the law and legal information are drafted, organized, and published.

The law librarians of the UNT Dallas College of Law are here to provide you instruction and guidance in developing your legal information literacy. We look forward to working with you during your first year in the Legal Writing and Research course and in future years with research and writing assignments in upper level courses and in the Advanced Legal Research Course elective.  You are always welcome to visit us in the library for one-on-one assistance.

Physically, you’ll find us on the sixth floor. We have study accommodations ranging from soft seating, to straight-back chairs at tables and study carrels, to study rooms for both small and large groups.

As print is still considered the official format by most jurisdictions, and many people still learn best reading from books, our print resources include a comprehensive print collection of primary and secondary Texas materials, as well as primary Federal materials and general and subject-specific secondary sources.

We also invite you to explore the virtual space we are creating, where you will find links to the leading online providers of legal information, as well as guides to aid you in your studies and research.

Through our print and electronic resources, and the education and services we provide, the Library will play a key role in preparing you with the practice-related proficiencies necessary for success.

We look forward to working with you. When you’re on the sixth floor, please stop by and say hello.

Your librarian,

Edward T. Hart
Assistant Professor of Law and Assistant Dean for Law Library
