Immediately after joining the law school’s inaugural class, John VanBuskirkdedicated his time to pro bono work, volunteering at Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas and four veterans’ clinics. By the end of his first year of law school, Mr. VanBuskirk had earned over 715 volunteer hours. During his summer internship in the 191st Civil District Court, he witnessed one of the first same sex marriages in Dallas County after the United States Supreme Court issued its ruling on marriage equality. Mr. VanBuskirk earned the opportunity to intern for a Public Defender’s office in North Carolina for the summer of 2016. Mr. VanBuskirk interviewed for his position at the Public Defender’s office when he attended the Equal Justice Works Career Fair and Conference in Arlington, Virginia.
